Flower Care Tips!

  • Use only clean vases that you would eat or drink from.
  • Vases or containers should be clean with a mild bleach solution  and rinsed before use.
  • Water your flowers upon arrival and then daily.   Check water level every day in container.  Vases or containers can deplete 1/2 the amount of water in a 24 hour period.
  • Never use water that has been softened (The salt content decreases flower life)
  • Pull out shorter lived flowers like tulips, iris and daffodils to enjoy the longer lived flowers.
  • Remove all foliage below the water line.
  • Always use floral preservative solution when replenishing water. George’s provides a complimentary packet of flower preservative with loose stem flowers purchased from us.   Our vase and container arrangements arrive with floral preservative in the water.   If the water becomes cloudy change the water - fresh water helps the flowers last longer.  It is a good idea to flood the container with water allowing it to rinse the stems.
  • Keep flowers in cool location out of direct sunlight or under spotlights.
  • Keep away from drafty locations like vents or doorways.
  • If transporting outside use good discretion on the temperature. Always keep flowers wrapped in winter and beware of leaving in a parked car in sunlight (greenhouse effect) or when freezing.
  • Use care if storing in a home refrigerator. Some locations inside a refrigerator may actually approach freezing and the problem of low humidity is always present (your flower blossoms will dry out).
  • Do not set flowers on top of heat generating devices like Televisions, audio equipment.  Keep flowers out of hot kitchens.
